Modular B2B procurement platform for buying groups

Planning, engineering and technical ownership of a modular B2B procurement platform with a microservice architecture, central single sign-on and multiple system integrations.

Project context
Software provider for buying groups
Period
05/2022 to 12/2023
Role
Lead Software Engineer, Technical Project Lead, Software Architect

Situation

A modular B2B procurement platform was required for associations, purchasing groups, franchise systems and other buying organisations. The solution needed to connect different organisations, partners and external systems securely within a configurable platform.

Responsibility

I was responsible for technical project leadership, hands-on software engineering and the design of the system, microservice and API architecture. Identity and access management and the secure integration of external systems were additional areas of focus.

Implementation

The solution was implemented as a containerised microservice platform on Kubernetes with Google Kubernetes Engine. My responsibilities included engineering central APIs and API gateways and integrating multiple external systems.

The central single sign-on solution was based on Keycloak, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and JWT. Roles and policies enabled differentiated access control. API gateways were additionally secured with API keys and rate limiting.

Builds and deployments for the containerised applications were automated through CI/CD. Regular security audits accompanied the technical implementation.

What this enabled

The result was a modular B2B platform with standardised interfaces, central identity and access management and secure integration of numerous external systems.
